Prommies By Danielle (janelane25@hotmail.com) Hi all. What's up? I'm working on my fourth fanfic. Also I'm working on my Pokemon fanfic called 'The unlikely friends'. But that's beside the point. So read, and enjoy! And don't criticize me cuz my fanfics are short... Oh yeah Daria and all related characters belong to MTV, and yadda, yadda, yadda... Daria Morgendorffer knew this would happen. Prom was in two weeks and she had to find a date, a dress and other important things. Normally she wouldn't care about something as stupid and shallow as senior prom. But Ms. Li had just announced that purchasing a ticket was mandatory as was attendance. So she sat in study hall. Jane smirked. "I supposed you'd be happy about all this!" Daria said. "Hey this is the one time I can force Tom to dress up!" Jane said smiling. "Oh god." Was Daria's only reply. Later Daria walked past Quinn's room. As usual Quinn was talking with her best friend/enemy Sandi. "Oh no Sandi, I would definitely go with the purple one!... Oh yeah? She did!? That tramp! I can't... oh... no way! She actually asked him!? He must've been desperate to say yes to... I'm probably going with Phil. Oh your going with Josh? Did you say you were definitely go with him? Well no I just thought that... but no Sandi I didn't- but Sandi!..." Sandi had hung up. Quinn looked over at the door and said angrily, "What do you want?!" Daria walked away. A violent chord shook the house from the basement. The band had a gig at McGrundy's that Saturday. Jane's painting, she had been working on fell the floor with a CRASH! The paint smeared into her carpet. "DAMMIT!" she yelled. "Ohhhhhhh... TRENT!" Jane stalked downstairs. Daria followed close behind. "Hey, Janey this is a closed rehearsal," Trent said as he stopped playing abruptly. "Trent, the basement is not yours, it is mom and dad's therefore I may come down here as I damn well please! Now would you mind turning the music down... about ten octaves!?" "Sorry Janey. Oh hey Daria," Trent said noticing that Daria had been standing behind Jane the whole time. "Hi," Daria mumbled. She hadn't seen Trent since the night she and he had had a long talk over pizza. And she remembered the way he'd kissed her, even if it was only on the cheek. She was a very interesting shade of red. To save her some embarrassment he turned to Jane. "Is there something you wanted?" "Daria needs a date to prom wanna go with her?" "Jane!" Daria exclaimed her eyes widening. "Sure..." Trent said. "Good, and if you play a chord that loud again, you do understand I will kill you." "Sure thing Janey," Trent said. And as soon as she and Daria were upstairs Trent played another loud chord. As soon as he heard Jane yell, "TRENT!" he smiled. Daria summoned up all her dignity and waltzed into Quinn's room. "what do you want Daria? I'm trying to find a nice Dress to prom!" "The prom is for seniors Quinn," Daria replied. "Yes however there isn't a rule against going with a Senior!" Quinn said looking at Waif. "Quinn I need..." Daria trailed off. She really didn't want to ask the question. "What...advice, money? What?" Quinn asked closing her magazine. "I need help," as soon as the words had left Daria's lips she knew she had made a horrible mistake. "Like what?" Quinn asked. "I'm going to Prom with... Trent and I want to look nice, so he'll notice me..." Daria said looking down. "Oh, alright!" Quinn said perking up a bit. "Tomorrow morning, we are going dress shopping, and I'll help." Daria hesitated, "um, thanks Quinn." "Don't mention it," Quinn said smiling. Daria walked into her room, slipped on a nightgown. The next morning Quinn came barging in. Daria sat up abruptly. "Quinn, it's so early!" "Daria it's almost eleven! I can't believe you slept so late!" Quinn waited impatiently while Daria put on her usual outfit. Once at Cashman's Quinn kind of went off into her own world. Leaving Daria to pick out all her own dresses. Finally when Quinn was done she reviewed Daria's decision. After pushing her into the dressing room Sandi, Tiffany and Stacy approached. "Like hi Quinn, what are you doing here?" Sandi asked in that irritating suave man's voice, eww! "I'm helping my cousin pick out a Prom dress, you know like a community service thing." "Quinn that's so great of you!" Tiffany's airy slow voice broke into the conversation. "Yeah, how do you do it? I mean here we are getting ready for Prom and you are unselfishly thinking about how to improve your cousin's life..." Sandi chimed in again. After a few minutes the Fashion fiends wandered off. Daria came out and modeled a black dress. "Daria your missing the whole point of prom. I mean since I'm probably going to prom for all four years of high school, but you are only going once... you should make it special. And don't look at anything on the sale rack!" Quinn dragged Daria to the fancier dresses. She caught a glimpse at one of the price tags. The dress was $234... on Sale! She frowned. Helen was so glad that she was going to Prom that she gave Daria her credit card and told her to get whatever dress she wanted. So Daria smirked as she picked up a few different $230 dresses. She and Quinn eventually agreed on one. It was conservative enough for Daria and sexy enough for Quinn. A very rare find indeed. On the big day Quinn spent three hours sticking bobby-pins in Daria's head. Then plucking her eyebrows, and finally putting on ten layers of makeup. It was about 7:30 when the doorbell rang. Daria assumed it must be Quinn's date, but she was surprised to hear Quinn yell, "Daria that guy Trent' is here..." Daria approached the stairs. She took a few deep breaths and walked down. Trent was waiting outside. He grinned seeing her dress. It fit great on her. He looked down at every subtle, or dramatic curve. He handed Daria a white rose and baby's breath adorned corsage. She smiled and slipped it on. The tank purred in the driveway. Daria hopped in, expecting to see Tom and Jane. But there was no one. "Where's Jane?" "She told me to come pick you up, she wasn't ready yet..." Trent replied. "Yeah I'll bet," Daria mumbled. "Huh?" Trent said turning his head. "Nothing," Daria said. When they reached the Lane house Trent stepped out of the tank and walked around. He extended his hand to Daria, and after he helped her out of the car, he kissed her hand gently. "I saw that in a Nickelodeon once and I've always wanted to do it..." "Oh Jack..." Daria replied smiling. Both of them chuckled. Daria went inside and only found Tom. "Where's Jane?" "I hid her... jealous Daria?" Tom asked smirking. "Ha. Ha. Seriously, where is she?" Daria replied. "Upstairs." Daria rushed up and knocked on the door. "I told you Tom! I'm almost done!" Jane yelled. "I no we're late sweetie! Hurry up!" Daria mimicked Tom. Jane opened the door. She came out and Daria gasped. She was wearing a bright red, sequined halter dress. And a red rose corsage to match. Jane smirked. "Come on!" Daria said looping her arm around Jane's shoulders, dragging her toward the stairs. The four finally reached the dance. The music inside was blaring. "Well they didn't wait for the life of the party..." Jane said referring to Daria. "Oh yeah, I just feel like dancing around with a lampshade on my head tonight," Daria replied. Trent chuckled. Quinn and the fellow fashion fiends stood by the punch bowl. "Oh Quinn you look so cute in that dress..." Tiffany said. "Yeah Quinn, you are beautiful!" Phil said. "Yeah," Josh agreed. Sandi simply scowled. The song 'God Must've spent, a little more time (on you)' came on. "Come on, dance with me," Jane said. "Sure," Tom said taking her hand. Leaving Daria and Trent to sit in uncomfortable silence. "So um..." Trent said tapping his fingers on the table, "pretty lame song huh?" "Uh, yeah," Daria replied. "You-wanna-dance?" Trent asked suddenly looking at Daria. She was taken aback. She only managed an, "Uh huh." Her breath was caught in her throat. And she was have difficulty breathing when Trent wrapped his arms around her hips. And his eyes intensely staring at her. She couldn't speak. Trent felt so weird. He always thought of Daria as more of a little sister, but know he felt a weird feeling in his stomach. He couldn't take his eyes off Daria. Daria felt very self-conscious. Trent leaned forward ever so slowly. He was about an inch from her mouth when she suddenly backed away, "I'll be right back," She said breaking away and running for the ladies room. Tom came over after Jane ran to see what Daria was doing. "What's wrong Trent?" Tom asked sitting down. "I thought she liked me..." Trent said thoughtfully. "She does... she's just a little afraid" Tom replied. "What do you mean... afraid?" Trent asked. "You have to swear to keep this under you hat... Daria's never cared about anyone the same way she cares about you..." "I swear," Trent said smiling. "What's wrong?" Jane asked. "It's not right..." Daria responded. "What?" Jane asked. "Trent... I don't deserve to be here with him..." Daria said looking in the mirror. "He deserves someone beautiful, intelligent, and not me..." "Daria..." Jane began. "No you wouldn't understand! You had Jesse before and now you have Tom! I've never had anyone special! Nobody. And the one person I really am in love with, I'm so afraid to even sneeze around him! I'm afraid that he won't like me when he gets to know me!" Daria retorted. Jane saw tears flowing down her cheeks. And Jane realized that Daria was right. She never felt alone. There was always Trent, or Jesse, or Tom to listen when she was sad, or needed to talk. Daria had never had anyone to do that. Her parents were always fussing over Quinn, and Quinn was always being stupid, and conceited. Everyone failed to notice her. "What's wrong Daria?" Jodie asked putting her hand on Daria's shoulder. "Daria... why are you crying?" Brittany asked walking into the bathroom. "Oh great, now the whole school knows!" Daria said, in her usual sarcastic voice. "She's upset because she's afraid that Trent, the guy she likes, won't like her for who she is once he gets to know her..." Jane said. "I hope you ripped up that confidentiality paper you signed," Daria said. "Is that the guy Daria was just dancing with?" Brittany asked. "Yeah," Jane said. "I saw the way he was looking at her, And he wanted to kiss her," Jodie said. "Yeah, trust me, I know about this stuff!" Brittany said. "Really?" Daria said drying her eyes. After some more gentle prodding the three girls convinced Daria to go back out there. Just Daria's luck, the song 'Cherish you,' By 98 degrees was on. Trent and Daria returned to the dance floor. Trent decided to go halfway, and if Daria didn't back up again, to kiss her. So he leaned down, and Daria didn't back away. She just smiled. And he kissed her. Daria felt her lip cells light up like a string of Christmas lights. All other things around them dissolved. And when the two finally broke the kiss, 'I do (cherish you)' was over, and 'Crazy' was playing. After the nominations and voting took place Jodie walked up on stage. "Everyone, I am here to announce this year Prom king and Queen, but first. This year nomenees for prom Queen are Daria Morgendorffer, Jane Lane, Jodie Landon, and Brittany Taylor. Nomenees for Prom king, are Michael Jordan Mackenzie, Kevin Thompson, Brett Strand, and Phil Keens. Third runner up for Prom Queen is Jane Lane, third runner up for Prom king is Brett Strand. Second runner up for Prom Queen is Jodie Landon, and second runner up for Prom King is Michael Mackenzie. First runner up for Prom Queen is Daria Morgendorffer, and the first runner up for Prom king is Phil Keens. The Prom Queen for the class of 2001 is Brittany Taylor, and the Prom king is Kevin Thompson." The king and Queen shared a special dance. The Prom song was 'Cherish you.' At the end of the night Jane slept in the back after Trent dropped Tom off. "Oh Daria you almost forgot this," Trent said handing her, her purse. "Thanks. Walk me to my door?" she asked stepping out. "Sure" the two stood for a moment, and then Trent kissed her. "See ya later, prom queen runner up!" He sprinted toward the van. Then he drove away. Daria found Quinn asleep on the couch. She floated up to her room. Dumping her purse out onto her bed she spotted a small piece of paper. She opened it and it said. Dear Daria, Had a great time. Call me tomorrow and maybe we can go see Notting hill... my number's 587-6692. Love, Trent. The end....
